The ROMAN SWAN brooch is inspired by the classic fibula of the late Roman era. The most recognized type of fibula is this crossbow type. Brooches were worn by the Romans to secure their clothing. Lacking buttons and zippers, these brooches were essential for gathering fabric and holding it in place.
A swan has often been seen as a symbol of wisdom, representing the awakening of personal power, balance, grace, inner beauty, innocence, self-esteem, foresight, spiritual understanding, evolution, and the development of intuitive abilities. It embodies grace in interpersonal relationships and commitment.
The Romans adored intricate metalwork, and much of their jewelry featured pierced designs, sheet gold, and granulation.
Each piece is completely hand-sculpted. Rafael Indiana hand-carves his brooches from wax, making each piece unique, which we believe contributes to its authentic ancient beauty.
